MMR and MTW; exciting times for this community? [Jul. 15th, 2009|07:43 pm]
Russell Howard and Jon Richardson Fans!

It's a sad sign that the moment both subjects of this community have been on television for the first time in a long time and nobody has posted about it...

So I thought I'd open a bit of a discussion about Jon's appearance on Michael McIntyre's Roadshow (BRILLIANT!!!!) and Russell's appearance on Mock the Week (Tatty Bojangles anyone??).

I was insanely excited about Jon's appearance and had a genuine belly ache from laughing.
Russell's appearance on MTW was good by no means, but because the format of MTW is so incredibly familiar it felt less exciting and fresh. It felt as though I'd heard it all before, if you know what I mean?

Anyway ladies, gents; discuss!

Jon was absolutely fab on McIntyre, I bet his Edinburgh shows have well and truly sold out! So glad I've booked mine! He's so lovely and adorable. I know of a good few people who've been converted to Jonism through seeing him on Saturday :D

And I really know what you mean about MtW. I can only hope it picks up the pace as the series goes on, I think they'd benefit from some new guests to be honest - they seem to have a list of comics they pick from each week! *hints for Jon to get on it* XD

Perhaps it's because i#m constantly watching jon on youtube i was a bit disappointed that i'd heard most of his jokes on the roadshow before- however the man is as funny as ever.

And i found out recently that MTW films for over 2 hours so just imagine all the good jokes that get cut.

I'd definitely say jon is the one with the funnier and newer jokes though. but i <3 them both

PLEASE tell me where you got you pic of jon. it's lush :P

It's the new image for BBC iplayer. I was very pleased with it indeed ;)

MTW will release another DVD probably with many of the outtakes. Like the 'too hot for tv' dvd they released before.

The problem with comedy on tv is that it goes through so many censors. You will never see a comedian at his/her full potential on television because it goes through so many filters first.
It's why Jon's set on the comedy roadshow was good, but only half as good as his live set, because he's not allowed to use 50% of his jokes.
So MTW will only ever be half as funny as it could be, because the jokes that get through are the scripted ones and a tiny amount of the improvised ones. Many stand ups have expressed that they dislike being on the show, because they get no chance to do their material. The regulars are used to the format and the scripted jokes, the new comers have to force their way through that. I'd dislike it as well I guess.

I totally agree with you about the MTW format being familiar.
I love Russell, makes me laugh a lot but it's getting a bit samey with him at the moment.

But with Jon, he never fails to make me feel happy. I saw in Swindon and he totally made my year so far. Even got to talk to him. I was very happy seeing him on TV.
